One week ago I toed the start line of the TCS New York City Marathon. The finish line was 26.2 miles away, but the road to the start line was months, weeks, a hundreds of miles of the journey.
When training for anything — running or otherwise — the people around you often (intentionally or not) take on a shared burden and responsibility . I’m lucky to be surrounded by people who support me, encourage me, let me complain and cry about setbacks, let me celebrate and brag about accomplishments, and even join me for the ride.
Over the last year, Bennett has done all those things. Though he won’t join me on the run, he did join me on the ride for many long runs, riding his bike alongside keeping my company and making me laugh. Little did I know he was capturing the essence of my training and the beauty of the race in a way I could never convey.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.
And I think it’s safe to say I will now stop talking about the marathon…till next year.
2017 who’s with me?
