When I’m not running I’m crawling: My guide to the 2017 Hoboken Wellness Crawl

So, newsflash it’s almost June, and double-news flash it’s almost the Hoboken Wellness Crawl.

This is the first annual event, put on by Hoboken Girl. You may know that I’m only a #HobokenGirl as of January, but it didn’t take long to figure out that Hoboken is a goldmine for all things wellness. And I’m talking inside and out – not just running views and great spin studios. You can find incredible spas, salons, clothing boutiques, restaurants up and down our Mile-Square town.

There are over 40 (maybe even 50!) vendors flaunting their wellness on Sunday and only 5 hours to catch ‘em all.

I’ve put together the most efficient way to make it from the Path to the Lincoln Tunnel while hitting 7 of my most-anticipated Hoboken Wellness Crawl destinations.

Hudson Yoga Project

I’ve made it known that I’m pretty sceptical when it comes to new yoga classes. I can count on one hand (ie. three fingers) the studios across Boston, Connecticut and New York City that I truly enjoy. So yeah, I’m a hard sell when it comes to ohms and all that jazz, but Hudson Yoga Project (or HYP) may have won me over. They’re a good mix of ohms and spirituality without getting too uncomfy. There’s challenging flows, but not to a point of intimidation. The class I took was a 5:30PM on a Wednesday and we all had plenty of room to practice inversions (no pressure!) on the wall. I can’t wait to see what they have to offer this weekend.

Prime Cycle (Downtown)

Mere steps from HYP is my SPOT, Prime Cycle. Much like my yoga practice, my spin practice is picky. I was a die-hard SoulCycle fanatic for years. I would fore-go dinners for Thursday nights on the bike. Somewhere between the cross-roads of Classpass, moving to the UWS and just fiscal responsibility I grew out of my Soul Cycle fandemonium and treated myself to spins every month or so. It took a while to get used to FlyWheel and I truly didn’t venture past them too often. Until I took a class at Prime Cycle in 2015. Prime doesn’t try to pretend to be something it’s not. It’s not SoulCycle wanna-be or a boring NJ-mom class. Their playlists are killer, the instructors are amazing and they offer challenging and fun choreography that gets you in that ~zone~. I was pumped when they opened a spot downtown, less than 5 minutes from my current apartment. It’s been quite while since I’ve sat in a spin bike, and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get in the saddle just yet, but that doesn’t mean you won’t!

Work It Out Gym

If you’re a downtown dweller you’ve probably walked by this super cute gym on River. Usually I see young girls jumping on the tumbling mat, and I had NO idea this was a grown up person gym too! I don’t have much of a review here, but I’m dying to find out what they offer. From their site they have toning classes, spin classes and more. Plus, their intro packages are really appealing (hello unlimited!).

Maid in Hoboken

Few things have given me the pleasure of a professional cleaned home. The first time I gave myself this luxury I was riding a high for days. I was obsessed with my counters, my corners, my dust-less ceiling fans. I wanted to invite over all my friends, just as long as they took their shoes off first. DO YOURSELF THE BIGGEST FAVOR, give yourself the greatest gift, and check out Maid in Hoboken. The first 15 people at their new Madison St. location get a free cleaning. No regrets, no excuses. You might want to make the first stop on your crawl.

Makai Poke

I’m a Poke girl in a Poke world. I honestly don’t know how I spent a week in Maui and never had Poke, but I have it on the regular now that I live in New Jersey. Poke is basically deconstructed sushi in a bowl. Rice, fish, seaweed, edamame, whatever. It’s yours. When I saw Makai was opening on Washington..well, let’s just say I was there at the soft and hard opening. Poke forever.

Fleet Feet Hoboken

I mean, you didn’t think I’d get through this without dropping some running brags? Come on. Fleet Feet Hoboken is conveniently located next to O’Bagel and is also the most friendly running store on this side of the Hudson. I don’t know what they’re offering on Sunday, but I’m checking it out. For those local to the 07030, Fleet Feet Hoboken puts on a running group on Wednesday nights!

European Wax Center

Because now that your house is clean, you’ve eaten Poke, spun out your little heart and gotten your zen on, you need to work on those brows. It’s been over a year since anyone has  laid wax on my caterpillars (it’s a look, OKAY?) but I think it’s time I get a professional opinion. That will happen on Sunday.

Prime Cycle (Uptown)

See above! I love Prime. Also if you’re reading this BEFORE Saturday June 3rd, get a double-weekend dose of Prime at their Summer Block Party! Outdoor spin classes looking at the Manhattan skyline. Try getting that on the OTHER side of the Hudson, am I right?!

And there you have it! You’ve made it all the way uptown. I hope you took the time to walk along the waterfront and truly hope you’re getting that free house cleaning.

As a reward to reading all this, here’s my gift to you – a discounted rate for your pass on Sunday. Use code “ANNATHONER” at checkout.

Hoboken is a-boomin’ and for really good reason. I love living here, even though I miss the Upper West Side obsessively. The best part about Hoboken? It’s right next to the city.
